No it’s not Monday, I hear you, I was on my holibops this weekend.

A "Frankenstein's monster"
How the Labradoodle is their creators ‘Lifes Regret’…

All over the news a few days ago, the ‘creator’ of the Labradoodle (a cross between a Labrador and a Poodle) has said that it is his ‘Life’s Regret’.
“Aficionados see a lot to love in the labradoodle, the Labrador retriever-poodle mix that ranks among the world’s most popular “designer dogs.”
But not Wally Conron.
The Australian man who introduced labradoodles to the world back in 1989 says the breed is his “life’s regret” — the spark for a proliferation of poodle hybrids that he claims has run amok with irresponsible breeding causing health problems.
“I opened a Pandora’s box and released a Frankenstein’s monster,” he told the Australia Broadcasting Corp. in an interview last week.

It is not the only 'designer-breed’ to be subject to scrutiny.
Pugs are another breed that, through aggressive breeding in search of perfect dogs, have developed genetic diseases and hereditary problems.
It is very common for Pugs to require a caesarian section in order to give birth (completley unnatural). This is due to the size of pups heads relative to the mother’s pelvis.
It is also not uncommon to lose the female during this procedure, and for only one or two of the litter to survive.
“French bulldogs, pugs, all short-nosed, "brachycephalic" dogs, commonly must have soft-palate resection surgery — removal of the soft tissues jammed tightly together in the throat — simply to make a space to breathe through.
The maker of the first named labradoodle is worried that as the breeding of labradoodle knockoffs proliferates, looks are prioritized over health. But in that, nothing has changed. The rise of pedigree dog-breeding prioritized looks over function and the result are the genetic problems we see in so many breeds today.”

A crucial take-away
:
it is not that the original creator, whilst carefully breeding, caused all of these problems…
The problems arise when inexperienced breeders get involved for quick cash, so-called ‘backyard breeders’.
Due to the popularisation of these designer dogs in the media and amongst celebrities, they are very valuable when sold on.
