Morning!
🍻🇩🇪
I’m just back from a little weekend trip to Hamburg, Germany
I cannot emphasise how nice it was to just get out of my normal, switch off completely, eat out & drink some good beers.
Last week was hectic and it was exactly what we needed, remember to take breaks.
❤️
A huge thank you to everyone who listened to the podcast this week, I truly appreciate you
With so much left to learn it’s a good start, I promise I’ll keep learning as fast as I can!

Anyway, C’mere to me…
An $8 Billion Solution
To the problem you created…
Marques Brownlee released a cool video during the week explaining the AirPod copycat phenomenon, and it is something that I had never thought about.
And we’re not talking about the exact AirPod knock-offs you can buy on Wish or Alibaba, instead, a lucrative opportunity has opened and it is one that brands have created…
So firstly, as Marques points out, the rise in popularity of AirPods would not have been the case if they weren’t also a great product.
They are innovative, very small, sound good, come with a charging case, pair just by proximity to an iPhone, can take calls and can access Siri.

In the last few years, every major smartphone brand has now removed the headphone jack in almost all new and flagship phones.
Yes, they are ‘copying Apple’, but even if Apple wasn't the first to do it, someone had to be as it is simply the practical thing to do.
The biggest reason is the most obvious, more internal space.
A headphone jacket takes up a lot of real estate in a tiny phone body, especially when we are trying to cram in the latest and greatest functionality into thinner devices.
What I never copped on to is the reason for doing so all across the board so quickly…
Every company jumping on the bandwagon was accelerated by the realisation that brands could now upsell you another product - wireless earphones.
Samsung - Galaxy Buds
Google - Pixel Buds
OnePlus - Wireless Bullet Earphones
Huawei - FreeBuds
And so many more…
All the brands that removed the headphone jack now have their own version of wireless earphones to sell, and good ones too.
A profitable solution to the problem they just created for you...
Even non-smartphone brands want in on the action…
Amazon - Eco Buds
Microsoft - Surface Earbuds
Even established companies in the sound business from Sony, Bose, Sennheiser, Audio Technica and more.
There was suddenly an economic incentive to remove the headphone jack as well as the practical design one.
Apple has made an estimated $8 Billion from AirPods ALONE, since their launch.
Their AirPod division would be a Fortune 500 company by itself...
Now with AirPods Pro and many more people upgrading to phones without a headphone jack, this is only the beginning...
Marques’ Video:
However, as anyone who works in music production or video editing will tell you, wired earphones are here to stay.
