Hey,
Good news.
I think we are finally starting to turn the tide on the virus.
…but please, let’s not get complacent.
Anyway, C’mere to me…
A little reminder about you.
It is truly okay not to be okay. I’ve tried to echo that sentiment a few times.
This is not some huge revelation, I just think it is important to be constantly reminded.
I saw this video the other day and it resonated with me. Alain de Botton is very well-spoken, he makes some excellent points.
Burying Nuclear Waste ☢, Do you mark it?
(Stick with me here)
I recently watched a video, by Tom Scott, where he tours and explains Finland’s crazy solution to nuclear waste.
There is a lot of misinformation about nuclear power, it is definitely a huge solution for climate change (a topic for another day), but nevertheless it still has a waste product that is very dangerous and cannot be destroyed.

Radioactive waste is sealed and stored in carefully designed almost indestructible containers, but it needs to be stored for a whopping 100,000 years!!
Finland have decided to bury nuclear waste, about 500 metres below the surface of the earth in the bedrock, in a series of tunnels. Each container is individually sealed-up in clay as they go.
This particular tunnel system on Olkiluoto island, in western Finland, will hold a century or more of waste.
Once it is full, the entire thing will be sealed up and left…. forever…
This is where it gets interesting.

Do you mark the spot? Do you even leave warning notices?
It sounds counter-intuitive to even ask that question but think about it. This is the last thing you ever want someone to dig up…
As Tom points out, it would be very similar to the grave robbers and archaeologists of Ancient Egpyt, where there were signs the equivalent of ‘no trespassing’ but naturally written in hieroglyphic symbols and such that no one exploring could still understand.
100,000 years is a crazy long time ago, we were still battling an ice age...
It is completely possible that in thousands of years no one would understand the warnings?
Signs would only make people curious….
Ancient Egyptian remains were not dangerous or cursed, the riches were just very valuable to those at the time, hence the booby-traps and other security measures, nothing nearly as dangerous as nuclear waste.
I agree with the suggestion that we simply should not mark it at all, 500m is actually very deep, it probably wouldn’t be found and it would not do any harm to anyone on the ground above it.
Ignorance is bliss 😎😅
What do you think?
