Morning all.
Isn’t it mad that we are a week into July already 🤯
Anyway, C’mere to me…
iPhones without Chargers
A rumour with an interesting argument
Don’t worry this not some clickbait bullshit tech story, true or not, there is actually an interesting argument in favour of all manufacturers adopting such a policy and I’m really curious to see what you think.
Allegedly, Apple might ship the newest iPhones without a charger in the box…
I know what you’re thinking, I had the same initial reaction, surely they can’t ship you something without a vital component to it working.
Let me pitch it to you.
Firstly a little caveat, there is always an abundance of Apple rumours in the lead up to the launch of their new flagship devices every September, and this one is no different, although some reliable inside sources have ‘confirmed it’, it is very much still a rumour.
I came across this when Marques Brownless, the renowned tech reviewer, made a full video discussing this, and he isn’t normally one to entertain such here say.
In order to see the viability of this bold new move, you must appreciate the scale at which Apple and the smartphone industry exists, Apple doesn’t even have the largest market share and yet sold over 218 million iPhones in 2018, alone, read that number again.
The biggest argument is in favour of reducing electronic waste, shipping hundreds of millions of accessories, so many of which go unused and end up being discarded leads to tonnes and tonnes of landfill.
Secondly, so many people buying the new iPhone will be upgrading from an old one, so they already have chargers.
“We are drowning in electronic waste. According to a recent European Commission study, most of us feel we have too many smartphone chargers in our homes, and 40pc who received a new charger with a new phone would rather just use one they already have. Around half of the one million tons of power adapters manufactured each year are thrown away....”

Also, it makes sense that they would simply deduct the cost of the charger and earphones from the retail price, therefore it wouldn’t be extra to get one if you needed and, in theory, it also makes the phones cheaper.
Finally, think about how big an iPhone (or any smartphone) box is, think about how much of that space is taken up by the charger and other accessories, think about how thin it would be if it just contained the phone...
The smaller box would quite literally use half the amount of space and so much less packaging too, meaning Apple could fit double the amount of phones on planes and trucks. Thus halving the carbon footprint for transport and for packaging.
Also, from a productivity and efficiency point, they could ship phones twice as fast, and hold twice the amount of stock in shops…
Lastly, as Marques pointed out, this could be a transition move to prepare the consumer for a completely portless phone in 2021…
Smile 😊
This is adorable, watch until the end.

Think 🌊
Asking a tall person to grab something off a high shelf seems normal, but a tall person asking someone shorter to pick something up off the floor seems rude.
That’s all 🤙🏽
