Morning!
After an educational few weeks of tough conversations, heated debates and a rollercoaster of emotions here we are.
The work is so so so far from done but I hope at the very least we've had some self reflection, growth and gained a tonne of perspective.
Please continue to hold yourself accountable for action, education and compassion.
C’mere to me…
TikTok & Tulsa
An effective internet trend.
On Saturday, Trump’s campaign rallies resumed, having been halted by the pandemic.
Despite weeks of protests against racism and police brutality, rather than further efforts towards racial reconciliation, the president’s rally coincided with the weekend of June 19th, known as Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the US.
Furthermore, Trump also chose Tulsa, Oklahoma, a city home to one of the worst acts of racial violence in US history, the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921.
TikTok users, K-pop fans and teenagers from all over the globe jumped on a trend of registering to attend the Trump rally with zero intention of ever going.
Reports and analysts suggest this was actually very effective, and although they don’t have an exact figure, it is believed that the youth may have registered hundreds of thousands of tickets.
They cancelled all the events due to take place outside the arena - expecting an overflowing crowd.
(BTS - for those out of the loop are one of the worlds most popular K-pop boy bands)
The venue was certainly not empty, but the Trump campaign couldn’t fill the 19,000 seater space, despite boasting that they had received over a million ticket requests…
“As Trump and his campaign gloated that more than a million tickets had been requested, on TikTok, young people shared screenshots of themselves using Tulsa-area zip codes to reserve seats with no intention of showing up.”

Another positive use of social media, in an effort to enact real change, Instagram has set itself the goal of trying to get 4 million new people to register to vote in the US.
That is an insane number, but if any company has the power to enact such change…
